Orphan Relief has been working with the AAMOM in Liberia since 2008. (Pádraig Grant, the O.R director, has been working with this orphanage since 2006).

Orphan Relief believes that only projects that are initiated by the orphanage have any chance of becoming self sustainable. One of these projects is the Farm Project which provides food for the children and from the sale of produce also pays teachers and caregivers wages and pays for the upkeep and development of the centre.
Additionally, following consultation with the Min of Health and Social Welfare a new clinic has been built thst serves the orphanage AND the wider community too.

Water and sanitation projects have been carried out and new latrines and transpiration ponds built, electrical improvements have been made and a new generator provided, a computer skills training lab has been built, classroom furniture repaired and built, new bedding provided, sports equipment donated and the orphanage’s agriculture project supported by the purchase of tools and seeds and fertilisers.

In the next months Orphan Relief will build an 800 metre fence around the compound and continue the programme of upgrading the centres amenities.

When the children reach 18 years they must leave the relatively secure confines of the orphanage and have to fend for themselves. Orphan Relief is committed to supporting these children.

The orphanage directors developed the plan for the orphanage’s self sustainability and this objective will be achieved within the next three years because of Orphan Relief‘s support.

At present Orphan Relief is concentrating its efforts at one orphanage in Liberia. We are using our work strategy, developed at this orphanage, as a template for Orphan Relief’s programme to address the needs of the 120 other orphanages in Liberia. We need your support to carry on this work.
